10 Great stay in total. Clean rooms and great staff.
The shared bath is actually two mini onsens. So, very nice if you like japanses style baths.
The location is great as well. Especially since its close to one of 2 convenience stores in the area, close to the Temples and its right next to the river.

Loved this place.staff is very very good.
Loved the simple yet tasty n filling breakfast.
Lovely place with great onsen-style baths for guests, comfortable rooms, and the family that owns and runs it are very kind and friendly. I highly recommend!
The owners are nice people, they speak english and japanese. But everything in the Ryokan is written in English so I think this is a popular place just with international tourists. Therefore when i visited in December 2020 I was the only person staying there. They offer a fruit breakfast for 1100¥. They have a little onsen inside the ryokan. It is located near the river so you sleep with the river sounds which was nice. The downsides for me was that it does get cold at night (probably just in winters) and also the toilets are located outside the room, it is a shared restroom. They gave me a room that isnt close to the toilet so I had to leave the warmth of my room and walk the hall in the middle of the night few times. If I stayed here again I would def ask for a room closer to the restrooms. They are close to the temples and shrines in Nikko, but 40 min walk away from the main stations and a lot of the food places. The other parts of Nikko are 2 hour away with a bus, so if you plan a trip to Nikko consider staying here for a night and moving onto the other parts of Nikko - I think +2 nights in Turtle Inn Nikko is a bit too long unless you have a car or a very packed itenerary.
Came in the off-season (early December) so we were probably the only guests there at the time. We had a great experience. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the natural hot baths were relaxing, and it was a short walk to the bus stops for sightseeing as well as a short walk away from many historical landmarks. 100% would recommend!
For the relatively low price, this local inn was very comfortable and very welcoming. Located at the foot of the valley, it's cool and you can leave the window open instead of A/C through the night and listen to the bubbling river outside
The owners were wonderful, friendly people who made the one night stay warm and cozy. They can communicate in English pretty well too! The rooms and facilities were simple but clean and well kept, and the onsen bathroom was lovely.
The bus stop was a short 5 min away, and Toshogu Shrine was about 15 min. If you’re checking in at night/after sunset, the road leading from the bus stop to the inn is really dark. So if you can, try to get there before sunset.
