Rooms are comfy and quite. Small private onsen is a great plus. A bit hard to find but location was still very central.
Splendid rest in divine space. Conveniently distant yet close to everything. Lovely service. Spectacular onsen.

We had an emergency and needed to stop in for a bit to settle something. The lobby was deserted and we were the only people there. We attempted to purchase something but were not able to. We notified the receptionist of our desire to sit for a small while. After a short amount of time, the front desk person rather rudely said that she was very upset that we came in without asking and that she hoped that our emergency had “cleared up already. ” We left, and thought that we were so glad my wife and I were the recipients of that famous Japanese “omotenashi” at the turtle inn. I wouldn’t recommend saying here.
Rather bad service and the onsen advertised not existing except having a long waiting time. So questionable value for money
We stayed here for 3 nights in October when Typhoon Hagibis hit Tokyo. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room, which had tatami mat floors, bed mats, and screen windows. The beds were so comfortable! I was worried about sleeping on them for the first time but I was pleasantly surprised:) There was air conditioning and we had a bathroom with a Japanese toilet, sink, and shower in the room. We were given yukatas (summer fabric type robes) to wear which had the cute little turtle logo on them. The private onsen in the hotel has a beautiful view of the river and is very easy to reserve. There are not many rooms here so you will not have to compete with many other people for the onsen. We had breakfast the first day, which was a hard boiled egg, toast, fruit, and tea and juice. It was an additional fee but very reasonable, I think about $10 USD per person. There is a really cool park near the hotel with “phantom Buddha” statues by the water. It’s only about a five minute walk from the hotel and doesn’t take very long to visit. The hotel is in a great location—only about 15 minutes to the famous Shinkyo bridge or to the shrines. We also took a bus 45 minutes to Lake Chuzenji which we recommend! Though the main town is about a 10 or 15 minute walk from the hotel, the location is surrounded by nature and is very quaint and peaceful. We LOVED our stay here. Our receptionist, Naoko, made us feel so welcome. Before the typhoon she instructed us where we could buy microwaveable food, and then asked us to be back at the hotel a certain time for our safety’s sake. When the typhoon altered our plans, she called our Tokyo hotel and explained to them that there had been a landslide on the Nikko train line and we wouldn’t be able to get to Tokyo that night. She then arranged for us to stay another night at the hotel. She even took us in her car to the bus stop to show us where we needed to catch the bus to Tokyo the next morning. On top of all of this—she wrote our directions for us in Japanese and English, in case we got lost and asked for help. She was so amazing, I am so grateful for all of her help! We would definitely stay here again! Thank you for a great experience.
The staff is great, very friendly and helpful, always willing to help. The hotel and rooms are extremely clean and the rooms are cleaned daily. The private onzen is a luxury to have and eventhough it is shared by all the guests, you can always find plenty of time to use it. The dinning room is a welcoming place where to have a coffee or some complimentary green tea. The location is peaceful and 10 minutes away from the bus stop and shop. I totally recomend the experience here.
I went on a spontaneous trip to Nikko. Initially I only intended to stay for one night, but I liked it so much I stayed for two instead.
I had a Japanese style room, for 5000 JPY per night, maybe it was off-season prices, but it was worth every Yen. The owner was very polite, helpful and even spoke a little bit of English. She provided a map of the area and marked points of interest.
The Hotel does not have an Onsen, but a private Spa that is styled like an Onsen. It's not however an Onsen, nor is it referred to a such anywhere in the hotel.
All in all it was a beautiful and relaxing experience exploring Nikko thanks in huge part to the Annex Turtle Inn Hotori-an.
This place is wonderful. The pictures online and the website don't do it justice. It's a short walk to the world heritage area.
Lovely staff, nice and calm area in walking distance to the main attractions in Nikko. Great to have an onsen that overlooked the river going by.
This place is really cute. The staff is friendly and the breakfast was great. We got bread, what a relief! They have nice rooms and an amazing bath from which you look out over the river. You can use the bath as a private onsen.
We did not visit the local scenery because they have warning signs depicting bears. We are scared of bears.
The only thing we did see was the result of a very hard working grandma. There are a lot of statues and this woman managed to knit a little hat for each of them.
Great place to stay in Nikko. Its around a 15 minute walk to the main temples and a short taxi ride from the station. The room was comfortable and we had a great river view. The onsen was wonderful, it's private which was a nice perk. You just go in when the sign says its free. It has sliding windows so you can enjoy the sight and sound of the river while relaxing in the water, beautiful.
Great location within walking distance to the shrines, a nice little onsen and very friendly staff
Such a cozy little minshuku or Japanese bed and breakfast. The breakfast is only 800 for all you can eat western style. The staff are all super friendly and really go out of their way to help and can speak english. They have special events at the hotel for Japanese koto and other presentations as well.
Small ryokan little ouside of town next to the river. Very peaceful. Only few minutes walk from path with about 70 jizzo statues also called Narabi-jizo or Bake-jizo,
Nice rooms and great onsen. You can get dinner there but you have to let the owner know in advance. It's a good idea because most places in Nikko close early and it can be hard to find a place to get something to eat,
Onsen was great, staff was friendly, and the room was quite nice. No lotion or shaving cream in the room, but not really a problem. The breakfast was also good.
No turtles!
The ryokan itself is a little old yet clean.
There are two hot bath which can be used privately
