24My least favorite hotel in recent Japan trip. The facility is clean and the beds are comfortable, but the room arrangement is really poor given the room size. For example, the shower head in the bathroom is literally inches from a giant duct volume so washing your hair involved crouching down to half height so you didn't whack your head on the wall.
Biggest disappointment of our 21 nights in Japan.
The hotel is located just beneath a highway bridge so you feel like your in Bangkok. And expect at least 10 minutes walk (up the hill) to each of the two nearest subway stations.
The hotel is not clean and maintained as we got used to in Japan (stained carpet, dust, dirty curtains, lights are not working) so you feel more like in India.
We got first a room in the second floor which is facing the AC shaft that makes a lot of noise. Next day they moved us to the fifth floor same horrible designed and maintained room. With the plastic prefabricated bathroom that makes you feel like in a trailer. When you open the bathroom door it clashes with the closet and the window still faces the AC shaft and can’t be opened.
And the price outrageously high for what you get. There are so many other better options in Tokyo.
I stayed in a budget room on the 2nd floor which didn't have a view, but the bed was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly. I would pay a bit more next time to get a more spacious room with nicer furnishings and a view.
Some features I loved were the comfortable bed and good shower, the room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast buffet and the evening dining at Cocnoma on the 1st floor.
The Coconoma restaurant catered to my plant-based diet perfectly and I had a very classy, fine dining experience that I will not soon forget.
In the room, I liked the large sink in the room which made making coffee and tea easier than filling at the bathroom sink (like most hotels).
HRR is a good location- it's a short walk to local transport and there are lots of great eateries and drinking places nearby which Roppongi seems famous for. The Roppongi hills is nearby and great for a wander (and to cool off) in summer. They have a viewing platform (pay a fee) and a good selection of movies in the theatre in addition to dining, art and shopping options.
In terms of hotel sustainability, I love the iced water infused with citrus and mint in the lobby to refill my water bottle before heading out for walks and exploration in the summer heat. I haven't seen this at any other hotel.
It is also very good that the hotel has a smart key system for electronics to turn off when leaving the room, but unfortunately, that did not include the AC which could be left on by accident and waste energy. The room cools down quickly once entered. It is also great that it is a non-smoking hotel. There is also good quality refillable shampoo, conditioner and body soap available. Reusable robe in closet. Reusable slippers (better if not wrapped in plastic).
The PET plastic drink bottles would be better replaced with reusable ones. You make tea and coffee from the tap, so why not tap water in reusable bottles in the fridge to enjoy and refill as you will want to drink more than 1 or 2 during your stay. Also, the fridge setting really shouldn't be set on high, it would be better to leave it completely off or on LOW until needed by the guest.
I would have also liked to have worked on my laptop in the lounge downstairs, since the room was a little small and dark to work comfortably. Unfortunately, there were no tables or area to work in the lobby and the WIFI on the 1F wasn't strong.
There was a bit of traffic noise, but other than that the room and hotel was very quiet and pleasant. I wasn't disturbed by any noise from neighboring rooms.
The curtains were great and cut out all of the light and I was able to sleep well.
There were beautiful seasonal flowers in the lobby and dining areas. The living green plant wall in the breakfast room is a fantastic feature that makes you feel so relaxed, maybe they can add more living plants to the rooms to expand this natural theme.
Small boutique hotel right in the middle of Roppongi. Perfect location for a short stay in Tokyo. This was our second stay actually. The staff was very nice and very helpful with our most luggages. The room are small but perfectly clean and equipped.
We will be back there for our 3rd trip:)
