5 Located in a basement in Ginza. The simple restaurant only sits 20 pax and has one chef and two waitress.
I first ate here in 2015 and each time I come here, the beef is different, due to the availability. This year (2020), we had Yonezawa beef, which is one of the “big three. ”
The menu is simple (and handwritten) : fresh salad, shrimp cocktails and soup. The chef has limited English, but is very friendly and is able to talk about the beef.
The chef cuts the steak about 2 fingers thick, which is about 500g. This is good enough for 2-pax.
Unlike the teppanyaki style, the chef used a brick oven and charcoal to cook the steaks. He charred the outside and left the inside raw.
One steak alone is ¥50,000, which is quite expensive but definitely worth a try!
It's really the best steak I've tasted so far. The Matsusaka beef grilled in a custom-ordered kiln with Kinshu binchotan, the best quality charcoal type from Japanese oak tree. Has a decent selection of wines and some specialty fruits too. Just come here for the steak and try overlook the service and the ambience. Read the menu and order correctly to avoid bill-shock.
