We did the Shinjuku Izakaya tour in November. Our guide Rie was amazing! She was super knowledgeable and friendly. We really enjoyed hanging out with her! Really appreciated her suggestions on other places to visit as well!
All the food was super delicious. I highly suggest coming with an empty stomach as we were stuffed by the end of the night. We loved the yakitori, okonomiyaki and gyoza! Rie also ordered Natto Omelet for us which is something I would never think of ordering so I appreciate the adventure! Lastly she recommended yuzu ice cream to end the night since we couldn't fit another plat of gyoza and it turned out to be a highlight! We craved it the entire trip after. One of the best nights we spent in Japan!
We had a great time with our tour guides. They speak very good English and were very personable. We had great conversations and they even gave us good recommendations for other restaurants and shopping malls. The food was great too and also took us on a tour of shinjuku red district. When we were late and missed the meet up time, they were kind enough to let us meet them at the first restaurant location. We definitely had a wonderful time.
Just had the sake tasting tour, in Shinjuku, best experience I ever had in Japan! Knowledgeable, fun, interesting, just perfect!
Fantastic tour with Yuma and Ninja Food Tours. Great food, local knowledge and hospitality. It was fantastic to experience local spots and ask Yuma a myriad of questions. The tour was customized based on our desires and since we had a 7 yr old with us they even made it family friendly. We were on Izakaya tour Nov 2021.
I attended the Wagyu & Sake Tasting and although it was a lot of tasty food/drinks, the over all experience was a bit disappointing. I didn’t really leave with any more knowledge or tools then when I walked in and very minimal info about the two products offered. The youtube on their website said “we will teach you all the basics of sake you will need to know so you will leave feeling like a pro” it also mentioned “it will be a unique luxury dining experience”…that being said I felt like I was just another person in the bar and didn’t receive the attention one would expect, given you are probably paying more then the regular customers in the Izakaya to be there. He was very busy attending to other customers during the tasting. I think if I just visited the bar outside of the tasting experience, I might have enjoyed it more (Sake Bar Doron). If your looking to eat lots of meat and drink sake then you will probably enjoy it. If your looking for an educational luxury dining experience, then maybe not so much. Yuma and his staff were all extremely nice, but the atmosphere and experience was average compared to the way it was advertised. I wish I would have spent my last night in Tokyo perhaps doing something else I felt like the ultimate tourist for attending. Sounds like from the other reviews the walking tours might be a better option. Before booking I asked if they had a discount code or Black Friday sale going on, since I was booking on Black Friday but was fine without such discounts and understand the cost of meat can be high. The food was good, just wasn’t the experience I was wanting or expecting.
Great tour outfit.
Took the tour in Osaka.and the restaurant stops were great.
Highly recommend this place.
Some of the best tuna I have ever had in my life.
Fabulous tour. I did the Izakaya tour in Shinjuku and our tour guide Ai was great and so knowledgeable about the food and helped us with our questions on Japanese culture, and took us to some really great places. I would so highly recommend this tour. Abs the tour company re-arranged some guests so we had three solo female travellers together in the same group. Such good service. Thank you!
Had a spectacular tour with Yuma exploring restaurants we never would have found, as well as some super interesting parts of Shinjuku. Great food, good company and a fun way to learn about a new city. His follow up with recommendations on Kyoto was super helpful!
Yuma was a great guide through the wholesale fish market and outer market (street food). The tour is well-timed and orchestrated and you get a good sense of the fish market and the new market. The food stalls at which you stop are excellent and there is little to no waiting. Our guide was friendly and warm and helpful at answering questions. It’s one of the few tours that gets you into a cool part of Tokyo that you otherwise couldn’t access as a tourist. As friendly and earnestly oblivious Canadians, this tour was a welcome way introduce ourselves to Tokyo. Great food, great guide, well paced and well worth it. They also provided several restaurant recommendations afterwards which were lovely.
As an aside - our guide was excruciatingly patient and gracious when dealing with another (very) crass and rude group member.
Really good experience of local food and night life in Tokyo. Much more food than I expected and guide very knowledgeable.
Really super food tour, you get to see the right highlights and taste some delicious food - you will be full! Amanda was a sensational guide. We also loved the sake tasting with Yuma before too, he made it really interesting, had a little quiz in it which kept your thinking as you tried the sake and you can tell he has passion for it.
Amazing food, pace and guide was really friendly and extremely generous in sharing all the info we requested. Super friendly and efficient service. Can't recommend them enough. We really enjoyed our Kyoto night tour. Thank you so much. Kanpai!
Amazing tour of the fish markets in Shinjuku. Kaz made the experience. He was extremely knowledgeable and incredibly friendly. Felt like we had a friend in Tokyo. Thank you Kaz!
So glad I did this tour my first full day in Shinjuku. I stayed in Shinjuku so i wanted to get familiar with the area. My guide was Nathan and he was originally from the states. He did an amazing job with showing us around and discovering places we would have never found on our own. He gave us practical tips for the other plans we had on Japan and how to get there or where to eat and answered our questions. Then the food! Again so impressed with the selection and variety. I tried things I would have never tried and at places I would have never known to try. We tried over 10 small dishes with 2 full drinks.
Did one in Kyoto, tour guide had amazing knowledge of local food places and food itself. Got to try more food in one night than you would normally get to try on your own. Highly recommended
Great experience joining the Kyoto food tour! We got to try out food and restaurants that we would have otherwise missed if we had explored on our own. Food selection was good and suits all palates
Tour was a great experience eating traditional local ‘tapas’ in several places in the nightlife area of Shinjuku. Our tour guide Giulia was very informative and made the evening lots of fun.bonus that she was also a sake sommelier!
I was in Japan for the first 4 days of my trip by myself and so I thought that I would try and get out and meet some people. I signed up for the tour and got Amanda as a tour guide. She is so nice and personable that it made the night even better. It felt like we were all being shown around by someone that not only knows the area intimately but was also a new friend. The areas we saw were beautiful and Amanda did such a great job of educating us that I used my new info to show my friends around the same areas once they landed in Japan. This tour is worth every dollar (yen) and more, give them a chance to make your trip to Japan even more memorable.
