Fresh ingredients with skilful processing. The ambience was good when I visited. There were two couples of Japanese, one Singaporean, a couple of Hongkongers and a Chinese immigrant. We talked in Japanese, Mandarin and English.
Solid solid 5 star. Dishes are really creative and well executed. You can tell someone really poured their life into sharpening their craft. It’s in the middle of no where and small environment but food is very good. Much better than other Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to in the states.
Superb, cozy tempura restaurant. The food was exquisite and served over a very enjoyable two hours. Staff were able to reccomend a lovely sake pairing. This is not casual dining, and there is degree of formality and precision to the service. We dressed smartly, and were glad we did. Worth the booking and journey, no matter where you are staying in Tokyo.
Hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever and I’m one of those people who travels to eat so I’ve been to dozens of Michelin starred restaurants. If this is your first foray into traditional Japanese cuisine and especially at a place that specializes in only one thing, you might be shocked at the lack of pomp and circumstance that usually accompanies a restaurant of this caliber, but don’t let that fool you into thinking this place isn’t worth your time or money. Tempura executed flawlessly with the most high quality, in season ingredients by a chef who is clearly passionate at his craft. Watching him cook is truly an experience in and of itself and his wife, who handles the FOH side, is so kind and welcoming.
Japan is notorious for having places where they are not welcoming to foreigners and/or that are invite only. They’re usually small, unassuming spot with 8-10 counter seats and are very exclusive. I never felt out of place or like they didn’t want me here. I have been to places where that wasn’t the case (cough cough yukimura cough cough).
Can’t recommend this place enough and looking forward to dining here with my husband.
