This was the best Tonkatsu I've ever had. The batter was nice crispy, and the pork was really tender and delicious. In addition, the truffle salt and Tonkatsu made a good combination. This Tonkatsu restaurant is little bit expensive than general Tonkatsu restaurant, but it's worth to try.
It’s great! We enjoyed great Tonkatsu! It was crispy yummy yummy yummy <3
And the atmosphere is also Japanese. So cool.
Best Tonkatsu I have ever had (and I’ve been to Michelin starred places). Tenderloin is recommended. Extremely tender, thick cuts, crispy panko. Nice drink selection too.
I visited this restaurant with a group of friends. The atmosphere was traditional and quaint and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
We tried two different types of Tonkatsu, both were incredible! The meat was flavorful, soft and very juicy. All sauces and dressings are in self serve containers on the table so you are able to customize the meat how you would like. They also serve the meat with truffle salt which I have never seen before. The salt really complimented and enhanced the flavor! We were all very impressed by the quality of the meat. Our favorite part was how light it felt regardless of being deep fried. The batter was crispy, light and perfectly crunchy. It came paired with a few sides like rice, soup and salad and the portions were perfect size. English menu is available upon request for meals as well as drinks.
Lovely location for a pleseant night to spend with some friends and delicious tonkatsu. The texture was very tender, coupled with its crisp batter and fatty flavours.
I'll definitely come back!
Fantastic Tonkatsu !
I went to this restaurant for dinner and had a great time there . The staff is very friendly and welcoming and they have an English menu which was very helpful. The restaurant feels very warm because of all the wood and it was roomy and comfortable. They can accommodate groups or couples on smaller tables.
They have different types of deep fried pork. I ordered the sirloin tonkatsu set which comes with a side of lettuce, rice, pickled vegetables and tofu. Everything is home made, including the sticky sauce you put on the meat that was absolutely delicious. And it comes in a cute jar with a wooden spoon. The meat was very well cooked, with just enough fat to make every bit juicy and tasty. The batter was also done to perfection, very light and crispy.
The risk with tonkatsu if not done well is that it can turn out dry and heavy. At this place, you can really feel the attention to detail and the portions were generous too so it was a great value over all.
Plus they have an open kitchen so you can watch your meal being made in front of your eyes.
Highly recommended!
I was invited to this restaurant by a friend who was staying at the New Otani Hotel as it is conveniently located within the hotel premises. The exterior of the establishment was in typical Japanese fashion making it very welcoming. As I got in I enjoyed the natural wood decor of the place, it felt very warm and somehow cozy. The highlight of our dinner was truly the food though. We had the roosu katsu which is the fattiest pork cutlet you can get. It was tender and juicy and the accompanying truffle salt was so yummy! The truffle salt just enhanced the umami of the tonkatsu. It was served with a mountain of shredded cabbage that help alleviate the fattiness of the meat and some tofu and pickles. The miso soup was also pretty tasty. My friend who does not speak much Japanese was glad that they had both an English menu and some information displayed on a sign on each table that explains how to eat tonkatsu with the condiments available in the table tray. I would definitively recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try tonkatsu. My only suggestion to the restaurant would maybe be to turn off the bright lights a bit, but other than that, well done!
The restaurant is located in the New Otani hotel, so it is quite convenient and easy to get to from Akasaka-Mitsuke station. You can walk through the hotel or walk along the sidewalk to the next hotel entrance.
The restaurant entrance had a typical Japanese design with lantern on the outdoor entrance and bottles of Sake in cabinets along the entrance hall. I was greeted by a very friendly staff who proceeded to show me to my table. Menus were in both in Japanese and English, which is helpful for those that do not know the local language. The staff also communicated in English if asked.
I had the tonkatsu which portion size wise was bigger than what I have had in other locations. The Tonkatsu was accompanied with cabbage on the same plate, smaller dishes of rice, tofu and pickles. The spicy mustard and sweet tonkatsu sauce gave and extra level of flavor to the already delicious meal. The miso soup and the tofu topped with thinly sliced green onion, ginger and a little soy sauce was outstanding. When I finished, I was surprised that I was quite full as the meal did not seem too much. This was a very good experience. I recommend to anyone looking to try a very good Tonkatsu.
The tonkatsu here was really good! I ordered the hirekatsu (pork fillet) and was really happy with what I had. The pieces were small but quite thick, and at first I was worried it might be a bit tough, but it was seriously melt in your mouth deliciousness, while the outside still had the perfect crunch to it!
Even though there were only three pieces, to my surprise I was comfortably full at the end. There were also plenty of Japanese people here too, so you know that's always a good sign.
I enjoy a good tonkatsu, so I've eaten it many times before at other restaurants, but this restaurant actually serves it with truffle salt on the side - something I haven't seen done in other tonkatsu restaurants. I was blown away by just how good the combination was. Try eating it with sauce and truffle salt together too! Not the healthiest way to eat it, but it was gooooood!
The sauce is in a serving jar on the table, and the salt comes in a small dish with your meal, so you can try them separately or together and season the tonkatsu to your taste, which I think is great.
The side dishes were all really good too! Miso soup, Japanese pickles, a small piece of tofu, and a bowl of rice. Besides tasting good, this combination of side dishes is really good for people who aren't too familiar with Japanese food, or who are feeling particularly adventurous.
The restaurant had a modern Japanese feel to it, and was very clean! The staff were also polite and friendly. I would definitely go back again!
