Incredible nice family. We had the Japanese style room, which a can only recommend. If you're there, you must take a bath in the big bath. It's perfect.
Wonderful family hosted Ryokan. Really nice, old and interesting area of Tokyo, not crowed at all - with small local businesses. Definitely worth to stay for a night or few.
Very quiet location and the rooms are lovely. A bit far to JR stations, but the walks are lovely to either station.
I cannot think of a better place to stay upon arrival in Tokyo, Japan. For first timers, this family owned Ryokan is a gem of authenticity and charm. Don't miss their ofuro, and I recommend booking a room without bath. The comfort and view from the shared (though privately, one guest at a time) bath is a big selling point IMHO. I also love their tatami rooms. As anywhere reasonable in Japan (except four and five stars overpriced palaces), don't expect a big room. It's just big enough, and comes with a tea making set, another Japanese tradition. One last thing, they are very kind and helpful, the multi generational Sawa family who own and run the place. They'll take good care of you!
Ryokan Sawanoya is an affordable place that excells in what it plans to achieve. It's traditional Japanese the rooms are cozy and the beds are on the floor however the beds are very soft. Location it's near supermarkets and close to the Chiyoda subway the service was excellent. I recommend to come to this place for a nice stay.
Small and confortable. The bath area is very charming and the family who runs it is absolutley lovely!
This place was my favorite to stay at when I was in Japan. The rooms are comfortable and from what I understand traditional. The private hot tubs were great too. Very relaxing atmosphere!
It's relatively inexpensive and small for a ryokan so I would rather call it a Japanese guest-house. There is a little onsen (but is it actually onsen water?) and the bedrooms (tatami) are comfortable. The owners are extremely friendly and this place really does it's maximum for the foreigners.
Pleasant Japanese style hotel: sleep on futon beds atop tatami mats. Rooms are quiet. The two Japanese style baths are open morning and evening.
Pleasant communal area on the ground floor.
Located on a quiet street between Nezu Station and Nippori Station, so there is excellent access to transportation to everywhere.
Staff are pleasant, polite, and helpful, but they have trouble communicating.
