Being of Japanese descent this place made me truly feel connected with my ancestors. This place is just so spiritual and serene.
Great shrine experience, completely different than any shrine I've ever seen.
Beautiful forest with an amazing atmosphere, complete opposite to the loud city with its people and traffic.
If you are in Tokyo this shrine is definitly a MUST GO place! You shouldn't miss this!

Very Japanese. Very peaceful and serene place except for tourists like us. Wish I had more time to explore the place thru their footpaths among the trees. Very clean and well maintained restrooms. There is wheelchair access. Admission is free.
Try to See a Ceremony!
When I dropped by the area, I happened to walk into a massive ceremony, which was one of the highlights of my walking tour around Shibuya. They say that ceremonies celebrating different festivals are scheduled throughout the year. The garments, chanting and overall cultural experience of this particular ceremony in August of 2018 was awesome. Even without, the architecture, and aura of the place is special - please check it out!
It's a great place for a quiet walk, the entrance on the shrine its breath taking, a majestic place with tall trees on both sides, giving you the impression you're walking in a huge tunnel. The not giving 5 stars since I was hoping the main shrine and building complex read more majestic, but overall it's a must see if your in Tokyo.
A quiet haven in lush greenery in busy Shibuya/Harajuku. One can escape here for a quiet moment to enjoy the beautiful surroundings after hectic shopping in the surrounding Shibuya or Harajuku areas. Very lush green vegetation with trees n flowers. Many young school children also visit as part of local school excursions. Entrance is grand with a gigantic Tori gate and once one walks into the area the atmosphere is calm cool and most relaxing. Surprising to have such a “retreat” in the busy part of town. Shrine area is good for a 45mins to 1 hour stroll. Air is refreshing probably due to all the trees n vegetation and the atmosphere is serene and calm. A delight to visit and it’s located not too far from Harajuku Station - 10-15 minutes brisk walk.
A wonderful shrine with huge historical significance, built in dedication to Emperor Meiji, destroyed during the second world war and rebuilt shortly after. The forested areas offer peaceful respite from the busyness of the city, with many paths to venture whilst quieting the mind. The tranquility of the shrine is punctuated by Shinto weddings that take place. As a visitor to the country this was fascinating to see.
Tokyo has a lot of beautiful little parks scattered around the city and I love to just spend my day wandering from one park to another. Little bridges, streams, it is like walking into a Monet painting all day long. My favourite Tokyo park and temple site of all is the Meji Shrine.
