18This bookstore is a little gem because it has a wide range of English and old leather books. It includes other foreign language books as well. Nick the owner and his team is welcoming and engage in chit chat. There is live music on Saturdays 8pm onwards so it’s great to be able to chill out after buying some books. I will definitely go back regularly.
Great English-language bookstore. Small footprint but packed with books floor to ceiling. The books are well-ordered on the shelves but you can also search the stock on a tablet at the counter in the back. Prices are extremely reasonable.
The entrance is set back from the street, so it can be a little hard to spot even from the nearby intersection, but if you actually walk in front the shop is immediately visible.
Apart from the old English books, there are music live shows on Saturday nights. Very cozy and comfortable atmosphere with the musicians. They sang a series of Beatles songs today. We really enjoyed our time here and definitely would recommend it to anyone interested in a weekend getaway from the normal noisy Tokyo.
Would visit again soon!
I love this place and tell every English speaker I know in Tokyo to go. Some days I can’t find anything I want, other days I come out with 3 or 4 books. I like browsing either way cause it’s a nice atmosphere.
I’ve bought books for ¥500 here that still have the remains of a ¥1700 sticker from one of the big Ikebukuro or Shinjuku shops on the back. Pretty great.
I really love bookstores, and this was a fun treat yesterday after I got a wisdom tooth pulled. I don’t necessarily agree with those complaining about the selection because it is a secondhand bookstore and not Amazon. Sometimes you find what you want, and sometimes you find something new. If you look around, there should be something for anyone. I also like how you aren’t immediately bombarded by employees because I personally like to quietly poke around and let curiosity dictate where I go instead of having a particular book or genre that I want. I’m really glad this shop exists!
Cozy bookstore located in Oshiage! I love the vibe and books available at the Infinity Books Japan. It’s a 10-minute walk from Honjo-azumabashi. The price is surely cheaper than other secondhand bookstores that sell English books such as Book-off. The topics of the books are wide. I’m sure you’ll like Infinity Books Japan!
I come back every 6 months or so with my read books to sell. His price on books bought is standard and much better than BOOKOFF, which he gives me in credit. I then pick up a handful of books.
The selection is good. You can find a lot of hidden gems at reasonable prices.
He has been very generous to date with his books swaps which is always appreciated.
I’m happy to support one of the last English 2nd hand books shops around.
It’s such a good place! The only bad thing I can say is I don’t live in Tokyo, so getting here would not be easy for me….
But the books! You can find all sorts of books here at a very low price— american, asian, european and even latin american books. I’ll definitely visit again.
I spent a lovely autumn afternoon blissfully browsing this wonderfully stocked shop. The prices are surprisingly low, and the location is superb. I found more of interest than just the five books I carried home. I will definitely return.
Saw this place advertised on Twitter, but the staff kind of acts like they don't even want you there. Bought a few books but everytime I go the main worker is just not welcoming. I hope they can stay open but I just go get what I need and leave quick.
Didn’t find any books of my interest. The guy/staff in the back was kinda creepy honestly.
The store didn’t have any charm. Very dark lighting as well.
Nothing to write home about in my opinion. Nice atmosphere in the shop, but I didn't find the selection of books that great.
A charming and friendly old-school bookstore + bar. They happened to have a live music event going when I stopped by on a Saturday evening, so I got a beer and stuck around for a while! There's a wide variety of ultra-cheap, used English books. I'll be back soon to keep perusing!
Beautiful book store. Was so happy to see secondhand English books and they weren’t overpriced either. The owner is a little cold but I’m sure he’s a nice person (cause he opened such a charming place). He told me they have events there every Friday & Saturday.
If you can handle the biting host is just one of the best places where you can go, have a beer and a laugh! The place is terrific, so sorry we didn't make it back to the Quiz Music Night.
Nice having met you!
Very warm place with a huge collection of used English books at reasonable prices:) a must see around Asakusa
Highly recommended bookstore with its own distinct charm - and I say this having been to Shakespeare's in Paris. I came for a quick browse through the bookstore and ended up spending two hours of my time conversing with Nick and his friend. It was one of the nicest conversations I've had in recent time. Definitely a treasured memory from Japan for me.
Books are used but sold at very reasonable prices. Why not head on down to Infinity Books and experience some old-world charm rather than spend all your yen on a cookie-cutter commercial bookstore? Nearest metro station is Honjo-Azumabashi.
Just don't come by on Mondays when Infinity Books is closed!
I decided to come here after reading the comment mentioning Shakespeare&co in Paris and thinking this would be somewhat similar. The store lacks the charm to be comparable to Shakespeare, there aren't that many books honestly, and I found their way of classifying all fiction in one big alphabetical order quite lazy…
I went with a list of ~50 books and high expectation that I'd find a lot of them there, but there were only 2. Most of the books I was looking for weren't even that obscure!
Finally, maybe he was having a bad day or I did something particularly wrong, but the owner stroked me as a particularly unpleasant man, who wanted us out more than anything.
Definitely not a comparable experience to Shakespeare&co.
