Sakaeya Kimono Shop Tokyo

The owner I a lovely person. She answered in a very short time. I was 2015/2017 at her shop and I rent a kimono. The quality was awesome and I feel like a Japanese woman. She tell you how to wear a kimono, make a tee ceremony and it's so a great experience.

After my visits I bought a mystery bag and I get a sleeping yukata. I love this quality. The yukata feel like a second skin. I love it so much.

I attempted to book an appointment with this shop two years ago but the communication with the person was really bad. This was not due to the language barrier but rather because I felt that I was annoying them with some things that I just wanted clarification on: (I would not recommend this shop, especially when there are so many options out there. I have attached our communication so that you can judge for yourself. I felt so uncomfortable after the exchange that I chose to turn off replies in our FB message. I had forgotten about them until a screenshot of our communication appeared in my phone and I thought I would share my experience. I wish I could have had a good experience like the others but I don't think it would be possible with this kind of owner. Also, I checked how they responded to the other reviews. A little bit scary and passive aggressive. Not kind or understanding and super defensive.

Easy booking, they contact back very fast. The service is impecable and they are very kind and helpful. Prices is good and they offer tailor-made plus size yukatas at a very, very good price (although I think they are very limited) and on top of that they are faster than I expected.

In general, I would recommend this to anyone looking to buy a genuine yukata or kimono for a fair price, especially foreigners since they offer guidance and a lot of help, and I would recommend it even more if you are a plus size person and they have availability to make a tailor-made one for you. Excellent service.

My youngest daughter wanted to try a kimono rental so we did it yesterday and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Not only were Kahori and her assistant (Satsuki?) very kind and patient, but the kimonos were lovely. We opted for the moderate package, which includes the kimono rental, a photo shoot, and a special tea ceremony. It was my first tea ceremony and was so beautiful. Kahori's every action was so precise and careful.
It was 9,000 yen per person (there's a cheaper package for 6,500 yen without the photo session at the park). There are cheaper kimono rental places, but Kahori is very focused on the cultural importance of kimonos and has a long family history of selling kimonos. I could tell from our conversation that this is a CALLING for her, not just a job.

Kahori was also kind enough to let me try on a wedding kimono after I admired the one in her showroom. I highly recommend her kimono shop!

In an attempt to buy a yukata for my mother as a souvenir during my last day in Tokyo I made a reservation for the same day. It was a gamble because we were flying back to the Netherlands early afternoon and I made the reservation in the morning. Kahori replied within two hours letting me know that they would have time to see me later that day. Unfortunately the schedule was too tight so we didn't go. But the after-service was amazing. We exchanged some emails and Kahori offered several suggestions and options to help us find the right yukata. If the experience in the store is anywhere near the online service I can recommend anybody to go!

Absolutely fantastic! This is exactly where you need to go if you're looking for authenticity, quality and amazing service. I'll definitely return the next time I'm in Tokyo.

I met Kahori during my last trip and I can't say anything but positive things. She has a great knowledge of traditional kimono and is very willing to help you out with anything you might need. The shop is open by pre-booking, so please keep this in mind. The opportunities for photography around the area are great and I can't recommend them enough for a real, authentic experience.

An enjoyable kimono session. I am very glad to wear the REAL traditional kimono outfit. Kahori San and her team are really nice and helpful especially on the photo taking. She knows what I want and do her best to accommodate to my request. I enjoyed the tea ceremony session and I hope to come back again one day to try out other outfits. I regretfully have to give 2 stars. Tried to book an appointment almost 2 weeks in advance and got rejected because apparently my budget was not high enough, although they had options lower than my budget on their website. I felt they weren’t really helpful, I would have totally understood if my budget wasn’t “realistic”, but I believe they could have come back with a less rude/direct answer and maybe with a counteroffer suggesting to buy just the kimono and not the obi or maybe a yukata instead! I don’t know, I had great expectations considering the other enthusiastic reviews and felt really let down! Sorry!
