33Yokosuka Commissary pales in comparison to stateside commissary stores when it comes to Organic products. I have sworn off of GMO foods, High Fructose Corn Syrup, and products that contain MSG for example. A lot of people in Yokosuka want to feed their families a healthier diet, but it is tough. The Navy Exchange is carrying more Organic items now which is helpful, but I like getting my food items at the Commissary. Also, all Commissary stores stateside carry Boar's Head Deli products. Why can't we get these items here for our hard working service members? Don't they deserve the selection of products available at let's say Camp Lejeune which has an excellent Commissary store?
I was asked by the cashier if had found everything I was looking for and this time I said NO. She asked me what I was looking for and immediately got on the phone to ask for assistance. A gentleman finally arrived to see what was wrong and left to get me an answer. The shelf was empty for the product I was looking for and he left to find out if there was any delivered that day. I got my answer and was extremely happy for the customer support I received. Just amazing the effort that was put into the problem.
Overall decent selection for being a military base. The best thing to buy here is meat and American snacks. You can get your vegetables and other stuff off base for cheaper.
The prices dont stay consistent for very long. We have to change brands almost biweekly. We recently discovered that the big jugs of milk are only 96 oz but almost $5. The actual half gallons are 2.40ish. Our normal detergent recently doubled in price. The sales are often pretty good but I think that's why the prices change so much. One item goes down while another goes up. They also will put sale tags out on top of regular prices with an arbitrary number so it looks like a sale. It's pretty sketchy and the only option if you dont have a car. Pretty classy.
Very much a typical American grocery store. Decent selection in frozen foods. I personally prefer off-base meat and produce. Keeps me and the littles from missing the United States. Base privelage card is required.
Nice to have American food to purchase. Small commissary and poor selection for the size of the base.
Decent commissary with a mix of standard American food and then some specialty items from the East Asian region. Prices for fresh vegetables and fruits can get pretty crazy.
A great conveniently located superstore with a wonderful selection of discount foods, standard grocery fare, specialty foods, organic, deli, and bakery items. They are currently upgrading many sections of the store to improve the experience. Fabulous customer service, grocery bagging, and carryout help are included. I shop here several times a week and their service is always consistently great and helpful. I highly recommend supporting this business.
You'll find what you need here but don't expect it to be like stateside commissary. You can also shop off base grocery stores for other items which I do.
Not good for produce. Some cashiers are rude. Can't always find everything you might be looking for but for daily needs it suffices. Some meat items are past due even though they might be frozen. Overall, it's ok.
You can but various stuffs from USA. You can have shopping as same as in US. So if you want have some fresh foods like fish, vegetables and fruits I suggest you go buy to local market out of Naval base. But good varieties for snacks! Good! The staffs are good and kind!
Check the food before you purchase. Many times things are expired or rotting inside the packages. I understand they ship it frozen to us, but you would think there would be better quality control. I have had bacon that was moldy, sour cream that had liquified because the refrigerator unit had turned off overnight and they tried to sell anyhow, moldy bread, and see many pictures from spouses Facebook pages on almost a weekly basis to make sure to check x product for issues.
