"warayaki" is when you cook food over burning dried rice stalks, it gives a great smoky flavor to both fish and meat, one of my favorite Izakaya. It's a chain, and some locations are better than others due to the skill and training of the kitchen staff. This one in the heart of Roppongi is one of the best in Tokyo. I highly recommend the Katsuo (Bonito) and Chicken.

It was a bit pricey but still delicious. The staff were really accommodating to foreigners and still very pleasant. The atmosphere is fun and open. Def a good spot.

やはりメインは藁で焼くカツオのたたき。
塩で頂きましたが美味です、絶妙な温度で提供していただけます。
藁焼きの最中も視覚で楽しむことが出来ました。

Amazing food, especially the grilled tuna! However, food is quite expensive and they even add a cover charge of 500 yen.staff is okay but I didn't feel welcomed and felt I need to order more or leave.the grill is a nice experience but still not sure if it was worth it ;-)

I had dinner with a friend at your restaurant on Sunday February 18th, around 8pm, my dinner was about 10,000 yen.but I check my VISA today and the charge was over 30,000 yen, somebody please contact me or fix this.

Simple english menu with great food. The staff are very warm and accommodating, the guests all did a rhythm clap to the singing waiter, and quite nice to see the food cooked at the fire pit. Expect other guests smoking inside, but that's normal in Tokyo apparently.

A really short menu. Few options and nothing amazing except for the grilled Tuna that is SPECTACULAR. Super recommended. If you can sit at the counter is great so you can see the preparation process.
Please stop by and enjoy this delicatessen.

Amazing. A warm, cozy, inviting atmosphere was only outdone by the quality of fish and perfect cooking. Very short menu but I would assume all are outstanding based on the eel and straw seared bonito we had. Priced about right for the quality and portion sizes.

Cooked the fish over a large pile of flaming straw giving a spectacular display and interesting flavour.

One of the best places to feel the touch of traditional Japanese cuisine! Very nice, cozy and vibrant atmosphere. Recommend for foreign travellers in Tokyo.

Katsuo is really tasty! They use straw to flash cook/char the outside and leaving the middle nice and raw and adding a smoky taste. They charred the food that we ordered: mackerel, chicken thighs, beef tongue, katsuo. English menu available. Best to call and make a res. I went on a fri and they gave us a 2 hr limit, which seems normal in the area.def use the salt and soy sauce on the table

料理のクオリティも高く、店員さんの対応も文句なし。
頼んだドリンクは直ぐに出てくるし、ご飯も一気に出すのではなく、ちゃんと順番に徐々に出してくれる。
分煙がないのがマイナスポイント。

Get there early to sit in front of the fire stove. You get to see how they prepare & cook the dishes with burning straws Great entertainment and food. Ask the waiters, they have a English menu. Tried the seared bonito, chicken breast, fried yam, seaweed tempura, mackerel sushi.etc

Taste ~ Enjoyed the evening here amidst a healthy meal. A small suggestion is that don't order all the dishes at once, else all of it will turn up almost together.
